The 75th Anniversary of the Opening of Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park: A Warren County Perspective

Date: March 9, 2010 at 6:30 p.m.
Location: Samuels Public Library, 330 East Criser Road, Front Royal, VA

Seated through recently acquired farmsteads, beneath mountain peaks, and above steep hollows, the Shenandoah National Park's brightest draw in 1936 was its newly constructed Skyline Drive. Wending 101 miles from Front Royal in the north to Waynesboro in the south, the Drive would throw open to millions the breathtaking vistas of the Virginia Piedmont and the Shenandoah Valley, and President Franklin Roosevelt himself would even come for the christening.

Come hear about the history of the park, the construction of the drive, and the lives of those whose pastures, fields, and homes became America's most scenic byway.
